Religious groups in suburban Chicago held a rally on Monday to oppose the Ho-Chunk Nation's bid for a casino. The rally reportedly attracted 700 people.
The newly formed Citizens For Our Community wants the issue put to voters in an advisory referendum. Religious leaders say a casino will lead to gambling addictions, personal and business bankruptcies, divorce and crime.
The tribe, based in Wisconsin, wants to open a large casino resort in the suburb of Lynwood. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Illinois) is backing the proposal.
