Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown has been hired by the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeo Indians to lobby for a casino in Barstow, California.
The tribe hopes Brown's stature will make it easier to negotiate a compact with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R).
The tribe hopes to acquire off-reservation land in Barstow for the casino. Two other tribes are seeking to build there as well.
