Santa Ysabel Band plans mid-sized casino

The Santa Ysabel Band of Diegueno Indians hopes a new casino will lower poverty rates among tribal members and provide a boost to the local economy.

The tribe signed a compact with former governor Gray Davis that allows 350 slot machines. The deal requires the tribe to share 5 percent of revenues with the state.

The mid-sized facility is estimated to cost between $18 million and $25 million to build. The casino will be located in a more remote location than most other casinos in southern California.
