Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe discusses shunning

Members and leaders of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts held a special meeting yesterday.

The main topic was the tribe's shunning of four members. According to The Cape Cod Times, attendees voted overwhelmingly to rescind the shunning.

Yet elder Amelia Bingham, one of the shunned members, wasn't allowed to attend the meeting. It's not clear if the tribal council will follow the vote either.

Bingham, her son and two others were shunned after they filed a lawsuit that questioned how the tribe was spending its finances. Bingham specifically questioned former chairman Donald Marshall, who stepped down in disgraced last year after lying about his military and work record.
