The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is still considering other sites for gaming despite purchasing land in one community.
The tribe and its backer own land in the town of Middleboro. But a spokesperson said New Bedford is also an attractive location.
The tribe is looking elsewhere as well, including Revere and Brockton. No final decisions have been made.
The tribe's federal recognition becomes final this month.
In related news, a proposed non-binding vote in Middleboro has to be scrapped due to a state law that requires referendums to be held during election years. Residents want to make their views known on the tribe's potential casino.
