The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts has optioned more land for its casino quest.
Last week, the tribe's developer agreed to buy 125 acres in Middleboro for $1.76 million. Now the tribe will take out an option for 200 acres adjacent to the site for a possible casino.
With its federal recognition due to be finalized on May 23, the tribe has been scouting various sites for a casino.
As a newly recognized tribe, the Mashpee qualify for an exception in Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
