Residents of Middleboro, Massachusetts, will vote on a non-binding referendum on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's proposed casino.
The tribe has purchased land in the town for potential development. Town leaders support a casino but wanted to give voters a say in the matter.
The tribe's recognition will be finalized this month. Under Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the tribe can open a casino on an initial reservation.
