Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. has frozen the budget of his vice president, who ran against him in the tribe's recent primary.
Outgoing Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. didn't make it to the general election. But he won't be spending any more money as his term wraps up.
During his final address to the Navajo Nation Council, delegates questioned why Shirley froze Dayish's budget. They said they specifically directed the president's office to share half of the budget with the vice president's office.
Just this week, Shirley vetoed a bill that would have reduced funds to the office. Some delegates question whether Shirley is using official tribal resources to help his re-election campaign.
Shirley is running against Lynda Lovejoy, who wants to be the first woman president of the tribe.
