The two candidates for president of the Navajo Nation have chosen their running mates.
Incumbent president Joe Shirley Jr. picked Ben Shelly, a Navajo Nation Council delegate. Shelly is from New Mexico and serves as chairman of the council's Budget and Finance Committee
Challenger Lynda Lovejoy picked Walter Phelps of Arizona. Phelps is an aide to Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Arizona).
Shirley and Lovejoy face each other in the November general election. Lovejoy is the first woman to run for the tribe's highest office.
