Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. plans to announce his re-election campaign on Sunday, The Gallup Independent reports.
Elected in 2002, Shirley is serving his first term in office. He hasn't decided whether to keep Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. as his running mate.
Dayish said he didn't know Shirley planned to make an announcement until he was contacted by the paper. "We weren't aware of what they were planning to do," Dayish was quoted as saying.
Five other candidates have filed papers to run for president.
