Federal prosecutors want convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff to be sentenced next week in order to keep him in a prison close to Washington, D.C.
Abramoff is due to surrender on bank fraud charges in Florida on November 15. He needs to be sentenced on his corruption charges in Washington soon after that day or he will be placed in a Pennsylvania prison.
To keep that from happening, prosecutors want the judge in Washington to set the sentencing for November 17 so Abramoff will be placed in a prison in Maryland and continue to cooperate with the investigation into members of Congress, their staff and their wives.
