Representatives of Virginia's eight tribes are headed to England this week to let the world know they are still alive.
The tribes were invited as part of the Jamestown 2007 commemoration. The tribes were contacted 400 years ago when the English made their first permanent settlement in the New World.
The tribes ended up signing treaties with England and some were placed on reservations. But the tribes lack recognition from the United States.
The trip to England lasts a week and consists of cultural demonstrations, scholarly discussions and ceremonies, mostly taking place in Gravesend, where Pocahontas is buried.
