"As it happens in my family, forgetting a familiar name, place or incident before you get to that age where you can say whatever you feel is cause to be teased until you feel 80 years old. I laugh, but sometimes I wonder if the past has grown up around me like tall grass around a old and weathered farmhouse.

So, I have to stop and repeat to myself, "This is not age, this is not age," when I can't remember some password, PIN or identification code.

Last week, I methodically forged through the Internet to find some Herald health forms. All I wanted was the forms - in fact, just one little form for reimbursement. I needed passwords and identification words at each stage of the search.

Then, once I got to the Web site, I realized I forgot the really simple password that I had used last year and said I wouldn't forget. It would be only 12 months until I use it again, I reasoned, so I didn't write it down."
