Federal Recognition
Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation seeks reconsideration

The Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation asked the Interior Board of Indian Appeals to reconsider the tribe's federal recognition decision.

The tribe normally would have to file a lawsuit in federal court after being denied recognition. But the tribe says it has grounds to ask the IBIA to reconsider.

It was the IBIA that threw out a decision that favored the tribe. After another review, the Bureau of Indian Affairs determined that the tribe didn't qualify for federal status.
