Eastern Pequot council said to be 'out of control'

Two members of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation council have resigned, saying the atmosphere is "out of control," The New London Day reports.

Agnes Cunha and her son, James A. Cunha Jr., said they won't reconsider their decision despite being asked to do so. Both were considered strong voices of the tribe. A third council member also resigned but changed his mind.

The tribe was recently denied recognition by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe's backer has apparently stopped making payments, The Day reported.
