Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. (R) said on Monday he will "stand in front of the train coming across the border" to stop nuclear waste from coming into the state, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Huntsman said he will take whatever steps are necessary to prevent the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe from opening a nuclear waste facility on the reservation. He is lobbying Congress and Interior Secretary Gale Norton and plans to take the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to court for approving a license for the facility.

The NRC voted 3-1 to authorize a license, saying the facility will be safe. The tribe will accept up to 44,000 tons of radioactive waste from Private Fuel Storage, a consortium of eight private companies. The terms of the lease between the tribe and PFS haven't been disclosed.
