Two tribes who were hit by the devastating Paradise Fire two years ago this month have seen little progress in rebuilding homes, The North County Times reports.
The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians was the hardest hit. The tribe lost 70 of 80 homes but only 14 have been rebuilt. Some homes are behind schedule because there aren't enough volunteers to build them.
The Rincon Band of Mission Indians lost 20 homes in the fire, including 16 trailers rented by non-tribal members. One tribal home has been rebuilt and three trailers have been replaced.
The situation is different for the Barona Band of Mission Indians. Thanks to gaming money, the tribe has already rebuilt all 39 homes lost in the fire.
Other tribes and tribal organizations have reached out to the San Pasqual Band but weather and other delays have slowed the rebuilding process.
