Barona Tribe rebuilding homes lost to wildfire
Tuesday, December 16, 2003

The Barona Band of Mission Indians of California has begun to rebuild homes that were lost in a recent wildfire.

The tribe plans to finish 26 houses by April. A total of 40 homes, plus rental properties, were destroyed by the Cedar Fire.

The tribe was able to approve and start the rebuilding process faster than neighbors in San Diego County, where fewer than 10 housing permits have been issued.

In October, the Cedar Fire and the Paradise Fire caused major damage on 14 reservations, destroying nearly 30,000 acres of tribal land.
