Two Wisconsin tribes still hope they can reach a land claim settlement with the state of New York.

Last year, the Oneida Nation and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans settled their lawsuits in exchange for gaming and other rights in New York. But the deals fell apart after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Sherrill v. Oneida Nation. Officials say the ruling bars the tribes from returning to New York and reviving their sovereignty there.

The deals announced last year expired on September 1. Tribal representatives said they hope to resume talks with the state.
