Mashpee chairman downplays federal investigation

The chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts said a federal investigation into the tribe's finances is focused on his predecessor.

Shawn Hendricks said the tribe is turning over documents to authorities. But he said the probe does not involve other leaders or members of the tribe besides former chairman Glenn Marshall.

Hendricks took over as chairman after Marshall was ousted. Marshall, who led the tribe for seven years at it completed the federal recognition process, admitted he lied about his military service record.

FBI and IRS agents are investigating Marshall and looking into how he may have spent federal funds and money from a financial backer.
