Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe sets media conference

Leaders of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts are making themselves available to the media today amid a federal investigation into the tribe's finances.

The IRS and the FBI are investigating former chairman Glenn Marshall. They are reportedly interested in how the tribe has spent federal money and how Marshall may have spent his salary. The state is also said to be looking at the tribe's finances.

Marshall led the tribe for seven years as it completed its successful federal recognition bid. He stepped down in disgrace last month after he admitted he lied about his military record and his past, which included a rape conviction.

The tribe received $15 million from a backer who is now helping pursue a casino. Some tribal members have questioned how the tribe spent the money.

Today's media availability takes place at 3:30pm at the tribe's headquarters in Mashpee.
