The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine says a developer that wants to bring a liquefied natural gas terminal to the reservation hasn't lived up to its end of the deal.
The tribe signed an agreement with Quoddy Bay LNG of Tulsa, Oklahoma, to build the facility on the Pleasant Point Reservation. The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the deal, which calls for the tribe to receive about $12 million a year.
For now, there's a dispute over $500,000. The company agrees it owes the tribe the money, but not until a separate project coordination and tax agreement is signed.
