A group called Save Passamaquoddy Bay is asking Maine Gov. John Baldacci (D) to stop the Passamaquoddy Tribe from hosting a liquefied natural gas terminal.
The group is made of tribal members and residents of two towns in Maine and Canada that oppose the proposal. Tribal members say the tribe is divided over the potential environmental impacts of the facility.
The tribe has partnered with an Oklahoma company to host the $300 million terminal on 42 acres of the Pleasant Point Reservation. Supporters say the deal will bring revenue and jobs to tribal members.
