Voters in the town of Perry, Maine, voted 279 to 214 on Monday to reject the Passamaquoddy Tribe's proposal for a liquefied natural gas terminal.
The terminal would be located on 42 acres of tribe's Pleasant Point Reservation. But a 19-year-old agreement with the town required local approval for any development on the land.
Tribal members last year accepted the project but the vote was close. Some members oppose the terminal based on environmental concerns.
