For the first time in Passamaquoddy history, a father and daughter have been elected to serve on the tribal council.
Wayne Newell, 64, was elected to the council that represents the Indian Township reservation. Dottie Barnes, 37, was elected at the Pleasant Point reservation.
Newell says he will focus on accountability. Tribal members ousted governor Robert L. Newell, who is said to be under investigation for misuse of tribal funds.
Barnes says she want the councils of both reservations to work together. Newell says he supports that goal.
