The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Inspector General is meeting with the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina next week to discuss complaints about the tribal housing program.
Tribal Speaker Lawrence Locklear didn't know the nature of the complaints but said the payoff of a tribal leader's mortgage could be an issue. The council wanted HUD to look into conflict-of-interest allegations. In the past, some tribal members voiced complaints about housing.
HUD wouldn't comment on the upcoming visit. The department awards more than $10 million to the tribe for housing programs.
