Benefits of Lumbee recognition said to be many
Monday, September 22, 2003

Recognition for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will benefit more than just Indians, Lumbee supporters say.

Recognition will bring millions in federal dollars to an economically depressed Robeson County, they say. The tribe would be able to tap into health care and housing funds and create jobs.

And then there's the possibility of a casino. If the tribe wins recognition, it could seek a gaming compact with the state.
