Members of the Pechanga Band of Luiseo Indians elected a new member to the tribal council.
The election was held on Saturday. Ken Perez, the head of the tribe's gaming commission, won a two-year term on the council. Six others, including incumbent chairman Mark Macarro, who ran unopposed, were re-elected.
Former members of the tribe protested the election. They were kicked out after the tribe's enrollment committee said their ancestor was not a true Pechanga.
