Despite strong opposition from Lakota activists, ranchers and religious leader, the Meade County Commission voted 5-0 on Tuesday to approve a liquor license for a concert venue near sacred Bear Butte.
The meeting on the license was tense, The Rapid City Journal reported. "We�re going to talk, and you�re going to listen," said Nick Tilsen, the executive director of the Lakota Action League, the paper said.
Gary Lippold is building the Rock�n the Rally near Bear Butte to host concerts during the Sturgis motorcycle rally. Lakota activists vowed large, but peaceful, protests during the weeklong August event.
The commission previously approved a beer license for a different bar near Bear Butte despite opposition.
