A protest is slated the morning of May 2 at Meade County Courthouse as county commissioners consider a liquor license for a concert venue near sacred Bear Butte.
Gary Lippold is seeking a liquor license for Rockn The Rally, a new concert venue for the 2006 Sturgis motorcycle rally. Aerosmith, The Black Crowes and other groups are slated to perform.
Lakota activists and their allies plan to fight the application. They want all liquor sales within a four-mile radius of Bear Butte banned in order to protect the religious and sacred nature of the butte.
The county commissioners previously approved a beer license for a bar despite significant opposition.
