The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota is accepting 240 bison from Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
The tribe will fatten some of the animals in preparation for slaughter. The tribe is negotiating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use some of the meat for school lunch programs.
Other animals will be used in guided hunts. The buffalo skins, skulls and horns will be used for ceremonies.
The tribe paid about $350 for each bison.
