A former residential school building in Manitoba will be turned into a museum by the Long Plains First Nation.

Chief Dennis Meeches said a museum is needed to document the boarding school experience and begin the healing process. The museum's motto will be: "From a place of hurting to a place of healing."

The school has been declared a provincial heritage site.
