The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians from California bought the land for the new home for the family of Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman killed in action in Iraq.
The tribe was approached by the National Congress of American Indians for financial help with the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" project announced earlier this week. So the tribe paid $180,000 for 6 acres in Flagstaff, The Arizona Republic reported.
The 4,000-square-foot home for the Piestewa family is being built by a crew of 1,300. Jessica Lynch, who was Lori's best friend and roommate in the Army, has been on site and helped with the design. The home will be built in just five days and will be revealed to the family on Tuesday.
Lori left behind two children, who are being taken care of by Lori's parents. Brandon, 6, is a member of the Navajo Nation. Carla, 6, is a member of the Hopi Tribe.
