The family of Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman killed in action in Iraq, attended a special honoring ceremony at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Monday.

A traditional song was performed for Piestewa and to commemorate all of the other American Indian soldiers who have died in military actions. Lori's father, Terry, who is a Vietnam veteran, called for all American Indian soldiers to return home.

Prior to the NCAI ceremony, there was to be a military flyover to honor Lori, but the planes never came. The family waited outside for over half an hour. The Albuquerque Journal attributed the mishap to a failure to inform the military.
