The Department of Homeland Security will review plans to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation, according to Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. (R).
Huntsman said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will look at terrorist threat and national security implications of the proposed dump. He also met with Vice President Dick Cheney to discuss the issue.
The state of Utah is fighting the tribe's plans to accept up to 44,000 tons of nuclear waste. Some tribal members also oppose the repository.
