American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier has been relocated to a new prison and placed in solitary confinement, the Associated Press reports.
Peltier was moved from Leavenworth, Kansas, to a to a federal penitentiary in Indiana.
The U.S. Bureau of Prison said the move was necessary because Leavenworth is being converted to a medium-security institution and Peltier is a maximum-security prisoner.
Peltier's lawyer said there was no reason given for solitary confinement. The lawyer said Peltier is running out of medication to treat diabetes and other ailments.
