Cayuga Nation re-establishing presence in New York

The Cayuga Nation has opened an office to oversee its burgeoning enterprise in western New York.

The tribe has purchased a gas station and convenience store and is operating a gaming facility on ancestral land. The tribe has plans for other businesses in the area.

The tribe was previously landless but is buying properties in its land claim area. A court decision under review by the U.S. Supreme Court could determine whether the land is considered Indian Country.
