The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is offering to give up its interest in a land claim judgment for the right to operate a casino in the Catskills region of New York.
A federal judge awarded the tribe Seneca-Cayuga Tribe and the Cayuga Nation of New York $247.9 million for 64,000 acres of stolen land. The tribes say the amount is too low and have appealed to the 2nd Circuit.
In hopes of settling the case, the Seneca-Cayugas say they will let the court decide how much the state owes and pay that amount. A tribal council member said the tribe would pay more than $247.9 million but wouldn't say how much more.
