Army Spc. Lori Ann Piestewa, the Hopi tribal member who was killed in Iraq, was honored at a ceremony at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico on Thursday.
Piestewa's family, including the two young children she left behind, attended the ceremony. Army private Jessica Lynch, who was riding with Lori when their unit was attacked by Iraqi soldiers, spoke of their friendship.
Lori was one of greatest friends I could ask for," Lynch was quoted as saying. "She motivated me to make it through the hardest times.
An oak tree was dedicated to Piestewa at the ceremony.
