Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk said the Bureau of Indian Affairs might weigh in on the Kialegee Tribal Town casino in Oklahoma.
Echo Hawk said he is waiting on the National Indian Gaming Commission to determine whether the casino site is eligible for gaming.
"We presently don't have a decision point before us right now. That may come in the future, but there is an orderly process that goes forward,' he told The Tulsa World.
The tribe signed a lease with the owners of a restricted allotment where the Red Clay Casino is being built. Critics say the BIA will have to approve the deal but an attorney for the tribe says it was crafted to avoid federal review.
