Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin
(R) confirmed she knew about the Kialegee Tribal Town casino early last year but said there was nothing she could do about it.
Her office raised concerns about the tribe's ability to open a casino on an Indian allotment. But she said, ultimately, the issue is out of her hands.
"There's a state law that was passed many years ago that it is in the federal hands to approve whether a casino could go forth or not," Fallin told KTUL-TV. "I don't have the ability to stop or hold up whether a casino goes up in the state of Oklahoma."
The tribe started construction on the Red Clay Casino last year, drawing opposition from residents in the city of Broken Arrow.
