Lawyer confident of opening for Kialegee Tribal Town casino

The Kialegee Tribal Town of Oklahoma will open a temporary casino in late March or early April, attorney Dennis Whittlesey said.

The tribe started work on the Red Clay Casino. Opponents are questioning the legality of the site -- it's on a restricted Indian allotment -- but Whittlesey is confident the facility will open.

"If we allow political decisions to determine whether tribal projects can open, based on local opposition, there'd never be a tribal project opened anywhere in the country of any kind," Whittlesey told KRMG-TV.

The temporary casino will offer 480 gaming machines, according to Whittlesey.
