Gary Metoxen: Tribal gaming aids economic development

"I am 100 percent Native American Indian from the Oneida tribe of Indian’s of Wisconsin. A part of the city of Green Bay touches or is within our borders. I am now a resident of Surprise.

I write in support of the Tohona O’odham plans to build a casino in Glendale. The idea that the casino will bring in crime, prostitution and other undesirable influences is something the Oneida’s had to deal with as well. We also built near two schools and several churches. We assured the community that we would bring in state-of-the-art surveillance systems, security inside and on the grounds of the casino. We have been successful and now operate seven casinos.

I would like the readers to understand that this is basic economics, more specifically: Native American casino’s affect individuals and the community. The objective is how a casino influences the local economy and contributes to tribe, state and community. "
