The Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona says results of a poll show the public supports an off-reservation casino.
When asked "In general, do you think this is a very good, good, bad or very bad project for the West Valley?" about 75 percent said it was good or very good. That's up from 68 percent who showed support in a poll conducted about 18 months ago, The Arizona Republic reported.
"The driver among the people who support (the casino) is clearly economic impact and jobs," Jim Haynes, the president of the Behavior Research Center, told the paper.
Chairman Ned Norris Jr. is due to testify at a House
Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs hearing this afternoon on H.R.2938, a bill that seeks to stop the tribe from building the West Valley
Resort. The hearing takes place at 2pm and will be broadcast on the Internet.
