Despite losing rulings in state and federal court, the city of Glendale, Arizona won't drop its fight against the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino.
Mayor Elaine Scruggs and council members reiterated their opposition to the West Valley
Resort even after the Arizona Supreme
Court ordered the city to pay legal fees to the tribe.
"This will be a foreign nation coming to our city that the city will have no control over,
council member Manny Martinez said on Tuesday, The Arizona Republic reported.
Not every elected official agrees. Council member Norma Alvarez wants to sit down with the tribe and the mayor of a nearby community is open to the casino.
"I'm not an attorney, but if you lose a court case and are asked to pay attorney's fees on top of that, obviously that's the court's way to tell you you're way off on the issue," Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett told the paper. "Take the hint."
