TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 2003 "Over the weekend, as my daughter and I were cruising the interstate, three deer jumped out in front of the car. My quick-minded daughter hit the brakes, honked the horn and swerved to the left. Two ran off to the side of the road with a sideways glance that seemed to say, "What's your problem?" The third stopped short and stared at us as we rolled by. I wiped my brow and said thanks. It was only a couple of months ago that I had another near-miss with three deer that ran in front of my car. That was at the Six Mile Corner near Garrison, N.D. I was alone, it was dark and it happened so fast I didn't have time to honk my horn or swerve. Luckily, two of the deer in that earlier incident were quick enough to get across the road, and the third deer left just enough space between himself and the first two. I squeezed so close to the last deer, I think I rubbed his nose. That left me shaken, and I was more than thankful then, too. . ." Get the Story:
