A federal judge on Wednesday appointed a special master to oversee the $8 billion cleanup of the Florida Everglades.

U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno agreed with the Miccosukee Tribe and environmental groups, who asked for the special master. The tribe says the state is not complying with requirements to reduce pollution in the Everglades, the tribe's homeland.

The tribe's battle to prevent dirty water from being pumped onto its land is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. The court will hold a hearing to decide whether water managers in the state have to comply with federal clean water laws.
