Calif. tribes spent at least $10.1M on recall
Friday, October 10, 2003
Tribes with casinos spent at least $10.1 million on the California recall, The Los Angeles Times reports. Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) raised twice as much, $21.9 million. About half was his own money, the rest was from real estate interests, car dealers, farming and financial interests, insurers and manufacturers. Gov. Gray Davis (D) raised $17 million. About 30 percent came from unions. Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D) raised $12.4 million. About 28 percent came from gaming tribes. State sen. Tom McClintock (R) raised nearly $2 million. Most of it was in donations in $100 or less although some tribes, conservative Christians and right-to-work advocates contributed.
