Calif. tribes to host three recall candidates
Thursday, August 28, 2003
The California Nations Indian Gaming Association is hosting three recall election candidates today. Gov. Gray Davis (D), Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D) and state Sen. Tom McClintock (R) will address tribal leaders during CNIGA's monthly meeting. The meeting is closed to the media. CNIGA represents 57 tribes with and without casinos. The organization says it will not take a position on any of the candidates, or the recall election. Davis is fighting to retain his public office. Bustamante is considered the leading candidate should Davis be ousted by voters. Both have received significant tribal contributions. McClintock has also received tribal dollars. He is trailing fellow Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger in the polls. Schwarzenegger, an actor, says he will not accept money from tribes. Get the Story:
