"As a result of settlement agreements approved by both the city of Mt. Pleasant and Isabella County, non-native residents are going to feel the impact of Tribal police and courts a lot more.
It's not going to be fun.
Or fair, for that matter.
First off, different rules apply, and some of them are based on race.
Under the settlement, for example, state, county and city officers will be deputized to enforce state and Tribal law against Tribal members in their jurisdictions.
That puts them on the same level as Tribal officers, who have long had authority to arrest non-Indians.
Here's a quirk.
If a non-Indian officer arrests an Indian, command must immediately notify the Tribal Police, presumably so they can get involved if they so choose.
But if a Tribal officer arrests a non-Indian, nothing."
